The Halifax Regional Municipality is advising residents that a grand opening event will be held at the new Beechville Lakeside Timberlea Community Centre on Friday, April 17.
The new centre includes meeting, activity and multi-purpose rooms, a community kitchen, a full-sized, 8,400-square-foot gymnasium, splashpad, changerooms and washrooms on location. Electric Vehicle (EV) charging stations will be available soon.
The grand opening event will take place from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. at 1492 St. Margarets Bay Road.
Residents are invited to attend the event, which will include a facility tour and activities. Free programming will be available as part of the grand opening weekend on Saturday, April 18 and Sunday, April 19. Registration is now open, with limited spaces available.
Halifax Public Libraries has also provided free public wifi, two public computers, and a book drop to the new centre.
Construction began in 2024 to replace the former Lakeside Community Centre. The new facility is a net-zero building, aligning with HalifACT: Acting on Climate Together, adopted by Regional Council in June 2020.

Le centre communautaire de Beechville, de Lakeside et de Timberlea célèbre son inauguration
La Municipalité régionale d’Halifax avise ses résidents qu’une cérémonie d’ouverture officielle aura lieu au nouveau centre communautaire de Beechville, de Lakeside et de Timberlea le vendredi 17 avril prochain.
Ce nouveau centre comprend des salles polyvalentes, de réunion et d’activités, une cuisine communautaire, un grand gymnase de 8 400 pieds carrés, une aire de jeux d’eau, des vestiaires et des toilettes. Des bornes de recharge pour véhicules électriques (VE) seront bientôt disponibles.
La cérémonie d’ouverture se déroulera de 16 h 30 à 17 h 30 au 1492 St Margarets Bay Road.
Les résidents sont invités à assister à l’événement, qui prévoit une visite des installations, entre autres activités. La programmation sera offerte gratuitement dans le cadre du week-end d’ouverture officielle, les samedi 18 et dimanche 19 avril. L’inscription est maintenant ouverte et les places sont limitées.
Les bibliothèques publiques d’Halifax ont fourni au nouveau centre un réseau WiFi public gratuit, deux ordinateurs publics et un poste de retour des livres.
Les travaux de construction ont commencé en 2024 et visaient le remplacement de l’ancien centre communautaire de Lakeside. La nouvelle installation est un bâtiment à consommation énergétique nette zéro qui respecte le plan HalifACT: Acting on Climate Together adopté par le Conseil régional en juin 2020.
