Halifax Water wishes to advise the public that Halifax Water owned watershed lands are closed to public access until further notice.
Lands included in this closure include land surrounding the following water supply areas:
- Pockwock Lake
- Lake Major
- Bennery Lake
- Tomahawk Lake
Forested watersheds are an important part of the multiple barrier approach to assuring safe drinking water. “The risk of fire in the watersheds is very high” said Halifax Water General Manager, Carl Yates. “Consistent with the Province of Nova Scotia we believe these measures are necessary to secure the safety of the water supplies until conditions in the forests improve.”
Halifax Water also asks private landowners in and nearby these water supply areas to voluntarily restrict their activity in the woods where possible.
