Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2026 (Halifax, N.S.) – The Halifax Regional Municipality is pleased to announce that Daniel Park has been selected as the municipality’s 2026 Youth Poet Laureate.
Daniel will serve a one-year term from January to December 2026, during which he will create new works of poetry, present at select Regional Council meetings, and advocate for poetry, language, arts and young writers through community events and speaking engagements.
“Congratulations to Daniel Park on his selection as the 2026 Youth Poet Laureate,” says Mayor Andy Fillmore. “He will join our previous laureates in capturing the richness of our region and instilling a love of literary arts. I look forward to their presentations at Regional Council.”
As part of the role, the Youth Poet Laureate receives a $1,000 honorarium, provided in two payments at the beginning and end of the term. Daniel will also participate in the AfterWords Literary Festival Youth Mentorship Program, offering opportunities to strengthen his craft and engage with the literary community.
The Youth Poet Laureate program provides young writers with mentorship, public platforms and opportunities to explore issues that matter to them and to residents across the municipality.

La municipalité dévoile le nom du Jeune poète lauréat de 2026
Mardi 27 janvier 2026 (Halifax, N.‑É.) La municipalité régionale d’Halifax est heureuse d’annoncer que Daniel Park a été choisi comme Jeune poète lauréat de la municipalité pour 2026.
Daniel aura un mandat d’un an, de janvier à décembre 2026, au cours duquel il créera de nouvelles œuvres de poésie, interviendra à certaines réunions du Conseil régional et promouvra la poésie, la langue, des arts et les jeunes écrivains dans le cadre d’événements communautaires et d’allocutions.
« Félicitations à Daniel Park pour sa sélection en tant que Jeune poète lauréat de 2026, a déclaré le maire Andy Fillmore. Il se joindra à nos lauréats précédents pour immortaliser la richesse de notre région et insuffler l’amour des arts littéraires. J’ai hâte d’entendre ses présentations au Conseil régional. »
Dans le cadre de ce rôle, le Jeune poète lauréat reçoit une allocation de 1 000 $, versée en deux paiements au début et à la fin du mandat. Daniel participera également au programme de mentorat jeunesse du festival littéraire AfterWords, ce qui lui offrira des occasions d’améliorer son art et de s’engager auprès de la communauté littéraire.
Le programme de Jeune poète lauréat offre aux jeunes écrivains un mentorat, des plateformes publiques et des occasions d’explorer les enjeux qui sont importants pour eux et pour les résidents de la municipalité.
