A section of the Bedford Highway, between Larry Uteck Boulevard and Kearney Lake Road, will be closed to motor vehicle, cyclist and pedestrian traffic this coming weekend. Local traffic and emergency vehicles will be provided access while work is underway.
The street closure will be in effect beginning at 7 a.m., Saturday, August 20th, through until 6 a.m., Monday, August 22nd. Subject to conditions of HRM by-law N-200, work will be permitted at night for both days.
The street closure is necessary to enable the replacement of stormwater infrastructure, which cannot be safely undertaken without a full closure of this section of the Bedford Highway. This work is being done to address a recurring flooding issue on the Bedford Highway in the immediate vicinity of Shaunslieve Drive.
Marked detours will be in place along the following route (click to view map):
Bedford Highway Inbound from Bedford: Bedford Highway, right onto Larry Uteck Boulevard, left onto Highway 102, merge off of the highway at exit 2 and turn left on to Kearney Lake Road, proceed to end of Kearney Lake Road, right onto Bedford Highway, and continue.
Bedford Highway Outbound from Halifax: Bedford Highway, left onto Kearney Lake Road, right onto Highway 102, merge off of the highway at exit 2B, turn right onto Larry Uteck Boulevard, proceed to end of Larry Uteck Boulevard, turn left onto Bedford Highway, and continue.
Halifax Transit passengers on routes that normally travel the affected portion of the Bedford Highway should expect minor service delays due to required detours. Call the Departures Lines at 902-480-8000 for up-to-date information for bus stop departures during the street closure.
Please note that bus stops on the Bedford Highway between Larry Uteck Boulevard and Kearney Lake Road will not be serviced for the duration of this street closure. A full list of affected bus stops can be viewed online at www.halifax.ca/transit/ServiceDisruptions.php.
In the event of inclement weather, the street closure and associated work will be postponed to Saturday, August 27th, and Sunday, August 28th.
Halifax Water thanks residents and the motoring public in advance for their cooperation, and regrets any inconvenience this street closure may cause. Access for local traffic will be maintained.
