The Halifax Regional Municipality is undertaking repaving and maintenance work on Sackville Drive between Beaver Bank Road and Florence Street. This project supports the Moving Better priority in the 2026–2030 Strategic Plan by investing in safer, more accessible and well-maintained transportation infrastructure.
Key improvements include:
- Repaving this section of Sackville Drive to provide a smoother, more reliable driving surface, enhancing comfort and maintaining safe travel conditions.
- Repairing or replacing concrete sidewalks and curbs to maintain or improve accessibility for people walking or using mobility devices, supporting safe and easy movement for all residents.
- Repairs and replacement of concrete driveway connections to improve accessibility and enhance access to businesses and properties.
These improvements will enhance the overall condition of the corridor while maintaining reliable access to local businesses and properties.

What to expect during construction
A construction management plan will remain open at all times during this project.
Sackville Drive is expected to remain open at all times during this project. Two-way traffic maintained with lane reductions in place during both daytime and nighttime work. Drivers should expect delays and are encouraged to use alternative routes where possible.
Work will take place on weekdays, with concrete work completed during the day (7 a.m. to 7 p.m.) and more disruptive activities such as milling and paving scheduled overnight (8 p.m. to 6 a.m.) to help reduce impacts to daytime traffic.
Access to nearby businesses and properties will be maintained throughout the project. Work on driveways will be done in phases, so each property will always have access. When work is happening on one part of a driveway, another part will remain open, or an alternate access point will be available.
Sidewalk closures will occur in sections as work progresses, with marked detours in place. Access to the Sackville Greenway Trail will be maintained. Halifax Transit riders may experience temporary bus stop closures or relocations and are encouraged to check the Halifax Transit service disruptions website for updates.

Yes. Access to all properties will be maintained throughout the project. Driveway connection work will be completed in stages, so properties always have access, either through partial driveway closures or use of alternate access points.

Traffic impacts will occur throughout the duration of the project, which is expected to continue to fall 2026. Two-way traffic will be maintained with lane reductions, which may result in delays, particularly during peak periods. Drivers are encouraged to plan ahead and use alternative routes where possible.
- Will the road be fully closed at any point?
No. Sackville Drive is expected to remain open throughout construction. Two-way traffic will be maintained at all times using lane reductions during both daytime and overnight work.
- How will I know what work is happening and when?
Project updates will be shared through public service announcements, halifax.ca/news and municipal social media channels. The contractor will also provide written notice to residents and businesses directly adjacent to the work area in advance of construction activities.
- Will access for emergency vehicles be maintained?
Yes. Emergency access will be maintained at all times throughout the project. Traffic control measures will ensure emergency vehicles can safely move through the area when required.
- How will the project impact people walking, rolling or cycling?
Sidewalk closures will occur in sections as work progresses. Clearly marked detours will be in place to maintain safe routes for people walking or rolling. Cyclists will share the road and should follow posted signage and traffic control direction.
- Will curbside garbage, recycling or green bin collection be impacted?
No major impacts to curbside collection are anticipated. If adjustments are required, residents will be notified in advance.
- Will construction be noisy?
Some noise is expected due to equipment used for concrete work, milling and paving. Concrete removal will take place during daytime, as it has less impact on traffic and produces more noise. Paving work will take place overnight, as it is more impactful to traffic flows and tends to progress more quickly, reducing the time that noise is impacting the same area.
- Why is this work being completed in phases?
Phasing the work allows the municipality to maintain traffic flow and property access throughout construction while reducing overall disruption to residents, businesses and commuters.
- Is this a bridge replacement project?
No. This is not a bridge replacement project. It is a road repaving and maintenance project focused on improving the condition and accessibility of Sackville Drive.
- Can I still receive deliveries or have services visit my property?
Yes. Access for deliveries and service providers will be maintained. If short, temporary access adjustments are required, the contractor will provide advance notice and work with property owners to minimize disruption.
