MINORREV-2025-00111 Reduction in the Minimum Parking Requirements for a ‘Day Care Facilities’ use in Musquodoboit Valley/Dutch Settlement Plan Area

Updated:

MAY 13, 2025

NOTICE OF APPROVAL
NORTH WEST COMMUNITY COUNCIL

On May 12, 2025, North West Community Council approved an application for amendments to the Musquodoboit Valley/ Dutch Settlement Land Use By-law to reduce the minimum parking spaces required for a day care facility use.

Request

North West Community Council initiated an amendment to the Musquodoboit Valley/Dutch Settlement Land Use By-law to allow for a reduction in the minimum parking requirements for a ‘Day Care Facilities’ use.

Proposal

The existing parking requirements for day care facilities under the Land Use By-Law for Musquodoboit Valley/Dutch Settlement Plan Area require 1.5 parking spaces for every 400 square feet (37.2 m2) of gross floor area. This could result in a significant amount of parking being required, where daycare operations typically rely on short-term drop-off and pick-up models. Therefore, North West Community Council has requested that staff consider reducing the minimum parking requirement for day care facility uses.

Process

The application will be considered under the Land Use By-Law Amendment process.
