Eligibility

Appointments are made in accordance with the Public Appointments Policy and applicants must live in the Halifax Regional Municipality to be considered. While most boards, committees and commissions have a minimum age requirement of 19 years, youth aged 15-24 may apply for the African Descent Advisory Committee and Youth Advisory Committee, with those under the age of 19 requiring consent from a parental/legal guardian when applying. Employees of the Halifax Regional Municipality and relatives of Members of Council are not eligible for appointment.

Under the Public Appointments Policy, each applicant may apply for no more than one Committee of Council and one external body during a recruitment period. Please select no more than one Committee of Council and one external body when submitting your application. Additional applications will not be considered.

Active Transportation Advisory Committee:

The Municipal Clerk’s Office is currently recruiting five (5) members to serve on the Active Transportation Advisory Committee. Positions include:

  • Two (2) Members at Large 
  • One (1) Senior Representative (55+)
  • One (1) Youth Representative (18-30)
  • One (1) Walkability Representative – represents a group that promotes walkability in the region

  • One (1) Recent Immigrant of African Descent
  • One (1) Representative of African Descent from Halifax
  • One (1) Youth Representative of African Descent (aged 15-24)
  • One (1) Representative Descendant of Africville
  • One (1) Representative from the Historic African Nova Scotian Community of Beechville
  • One (1) Representative from the Historic African Nova Scotian Community of East Preston
  • One (1) Representative from the Historic African Nova Scotian Community of Lake Loon/Cherry Brook
  • One (1) Representative from the Historic African Nova Scotian Community of Lucasville/Sackville (Cobequid Road and Maroon Hill)
  • One (1) Representative from the Historic African Nova Scotian Community of North Preston
  • One (1) Representative from the Historic African Nova Scotian Community of Upper Hammonds Plains
