14-100992 - Assault on police officer with a weapon

On July 17 at 9:35 p.m. members of the Halifax Regional Police East Quick Response Unit were attempting to locate a person on a warrant. While checking a parking lot the officers were confronted by an aggressive man at the rear of 252 Victoria Road in Dartmouth. Officers became involved in a physical confrontation with the man after he attempted to remove an officer's sidearm. A third officer arrived and  assisted while the subject threw punches at the officers with a makeshift brass weapon. The man was subdued and taken into custody, as a result of the confrontation one of the officers suffered several cuts. The officer attended the Dartmouth General Hospital where he was treated and released.

The accused, a 39-year-old Dartmouth man will appear in Dartmouth Provincial court today to face numerous charges including: Attempting to disarm a police officer, assault with a weapon, resisting  arrest , assaulting a  police officer, carrying a concealed weapon, and  uttering threats.
