Media centre

The Halifax Regional Municipality is committed to maintaining a positive, transparent relationship with members of the media to assist in the public communication of our programs, services, initiatives and events.

The Public Affairs Office is responsible for media relations, emergency communications, and issues management for municipal programs and services.

Apart from matters related to fire, police and water services, all media inquiries are to be directed to the Public Affairs Office. When making an inquiry, media are asked to clearly identify what they require assistance with, their contact information and deadline.

Hours of operation and response times

The Public Affairs Office responds to media inquiries during regular hours of operation:

Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (excluding holidays)

Receipt of your inquiry will be confirmed on the same day and every effort will be made to meet your stated timelines. Please note, only those media inquiries deemed by Public Affairs to be of an urgent, operational nature will be responded to after hours.

Media requests from accredited media (representatives of a recognized media organization) are given priority for response. Media requests by non-accredited media and journalism students will be logged and dealt with in sequence and, as such, response times may vary.
