On Oct 7, at 7:36 p.m., a 911 call was received from a 30-year-old woman who had been walking her dog on a system of hiking trails off Northwest Arm Drive in the vicinity of Walter Havill Drive and could not find her way out of the woods. She was still on the trail system but had been unable to find her way out for some time and it was now dark. Members responded and utilized lights and sirens for a period of time in hopes of pinpointing the woman’s location. This did not prove successful. A police K-9 unit along with two other members also entered the trail system in hopes of locating the woman without success. At approximately 9:15 p.m., HRP placed a call to Halifax Regional Search and Rescue to request their assistance. The search and rescue team responded and their teams were preparing to enter the woods just before 11 p.m. when the police K-9 unit located the woman. She and her dog were in good health and did not require medical attention. Contact had been maintained regularly with the woman throughout the ordeal via her cell phone.
