14-146359 - Drugs and weapons seized following traffic stop

On Oct 7, at 8:30 p.m., Officers assigned to the East Division Quick Response unit pulled over a vehicle on Dorothea Drive in Dartmouth. There were three occupants in the vehicle, an 18-year-old male driver, and 15 and 22-year-old male passengers. The 22-year-old was discovered to have a warrant for his arrest and was arrested. The 15-year-old was found to be breaching conditions of a court order and was placed under arrest as well. During a subsequent search of the vehicle (a Cadillac) officers discovered a knife which fell into the category of a prohibited weapon, as well as a cattle prodder, which is a prohibited weapon as well. All three of the vehicle’s occupants were advised they were under arrest for possession of prohibited weapons. During searches of the individuals, the 22-year-old was found to be in possession of quantities of Cocaine and Marihuana and a loaded handgun was found concealed under the clothing of the 15-year-old. All three are scheduled to appear in court today facing charges of possession for the purpose of trafficking in relation to the drugs and possession of prohibited weapons in relation to the knife and cattle prodder. The adults will appear in Dartmouth Provincial Court. The youth will appear in Halifax Provincial Youth Court aand on top of the other charges he will face a multitude of others in relation to the loaded firearm.
