On February 26, at 5:05 p.m. officers responded to a break and enter in progress in a residence in the 300 block of Portland Street in Dartmouth. A suspect attempted to gain entry in the house through a window and was confronted by the resident. He fled the area on foot and was arrested by officers in the immediate area of the residence. As officers were making the arrest they noticed smoke coming from the residence. HRM fire and emergency were called to the scene to deal with the house fire. No one was injured during this incident.
A 16-year-old male youth is currently in police custody and will appear in Halifax Provincial Court on February 27 on charges of break and enter, arson and breach of probation.
