Arrest made in relation to arsons

On August 3, between noon and 8:45 p.m., officers responded to four reported incidents of arson in Halifax. 

  • A porta-potty was set on fire over the noon hour at a construction site on Alumni Crescent. It was destroyed. 
  • At 6 p.m., an Infinity sport utility was set on fire in the 1300 block of Hollis Street. The vehicle was destroyed. 
  • At 7:30 p.m., minimal damage resulted from a fire set in a carport of a multi-unit building in the 5300 block of Victoria Road in Halifax. 
  • Just after 8 p.m. a parked tour bus was set on fire in the 1400 block of Hollis Street. Damage to the bus was minimal. The suspect was arrested a short time later. 

Members of the public were able to assist police by providing a suspect description which lead to the arrest of a 45 year old male in the area.  The man was held in custody overnight and will appear in Halifax Provincial Court later today and will face arson related charges.
