Two men are facing attempted murder charges after a violent break and enter in Dartmouth.

On September 21, at 2:38 a.m., Halifax Regional Police responded to a break and enter in progress in the 0-100 block of Bonita Drive in Dartmouth. The resident, a 75-year-old man, awoke to a commotion in his residence and located two suspects that were breaking into his firearm storage cabinet. He confronted them and was hit over the head several times with one of his own rifles, causing severe facial injuries. He was taken to hospital by EHS and underwent surgery for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. The victim’s wife was also in the home, however she was not injured. Several firearms were taken from the residence by the suspects.

Yesterday at 8 a.m., an anonymous caller contacted police and provided information about the location of one of the stolen firearms. Officers followed up on the tip and located the firearm inside an apartment in the 2400 block of Gottingen Street in Halifax. Subsequent information led officers to an apartment in the 5500 block of Bloomfield Street in Halifax where a suspect was arrested without incident. Investigators with the General Investigation Section and the Guns and Gangs Unit collaborated on this investigation and later executed a warrant at that apartment and located a loaded handgun stolen from the break and enter. The investigation then led investigators to the 100 block of Lacewood Drive in Halifax where a second suspect was observed carrying several firearms wrapped in a blanket. He was arrested without incident and the firearms were confirmed to have been stolen from the break and enter.
