August vehicle/pedestrian collision stats

As part of our continued focus on pedestrian safety, Halifax Regional Police and Halifax District RCMP have committed to releasing a monthly vehicle/pedestrian collision report to provide police and citizens with more contextual information on this issue.

During the month of August, there were 14 vehicle/pedestrian collisions in Halifax. Year over year, this represents a slight increase from the 13 incidents reported in August of 2014. However, for the first eight months of the year pedestrian/vehicle collisions decreased 24 per cent year over year.

Fifty-two per cent (56 incidents) of vehicle/pedestrian collisions reported between January 1 and August 31, 2015 occurred in crosswalks, compared to 62 percent (88 incidents) in 2014. Of the 109 pedestrians involved:

•             29 reported no injury

•             55 experienced minor injuries

•             15 experienced moderate injuries

•             2 experienced severe injuries

•             2 passed away as a result of the collision

•             6 did not report their injuries to police
