Barricaded person situation on Lakecrest Drive ends peacefully

UPDATE AS OF 9:20 P.M. ON OCTOBER 27

Halifax Regional Police has arrested a man following a barricaded person situation in Dartmouth today.

This afternoon, RCMP attended 79 Lakecrest Drive to arrest a 19-year-old man wanted on a warrant. Through additional investigation, officers believed the man was inside a unit within the apartment building and may have been in possession of a firearm. As a result, HRP crisis negotiators and members of the HRP Emergency Response Team attended the scene in an effort to bring the situation to a peaceful conclusion.

At approximately 8:40 p.m. the man exited the apartment and was taken into custody without incident. The investigation into this matter continues and the original issue regarding the warrant will be handled by the RCMP.

During this incident, some of the units in the apartment building were evacuated as a precaution. We extend our thanks to the affected tenants for their patience and cooperation.

Halifax Regional Police is currently on-scene at an apartment building located at 79 Lakecrest Drive in Dartmouth in relation to a man who may be in possession of a firearm.

Earlier this afternoon, RCMP attended this address to arrest a 19-year-old man wanted on a warrant. Investigators believe the man is inside and that he may be in possession of a firearm. 

Halifax Regional Police negotiators, as well as members of the Emergency Response Team and Patrol are now on-scene. Some units in the building are being evacuated as a precaution. We extend our thanks to the affected tenants for their cooperation.
