A man face charges after breaking into two apartments earlier this week.

On April 1, at 5 a.m., a 23-year-old woman awoke to a man standing in her bedroom in the 1000 block of Barrington Street. She told him to leave and he exited the residence. It appears that entry was gained to the apartment through an unlocked door. The building and the area were checked but the suspect was not located. The victim was not injured and nothing was taken from the residence.

As police investigated this incident, a 19-year-old male tenant of the same building approached officers and reported similar circumstances. He described that a man matching the description provided by the first complainant entered his unlocked apartment shortly before 5 a.m. He confronted the suspect as he entered the apartment and the suspect fled the area. The man was not injured and nothing was taken from the residence.

As a result of an investigation conducted by the HRP/RCMP Integrated General Investigation Section, 26-year-old Kem Chimezie Chindah of Halifax was arrested yesterday without incident. He is facing two counts of break and enter and six count of breach of court order. He was held in custody overnight and will appear in Halifax Provincial court today.

Halifax Regional Police asks citizens to report similar incidents or any suspicious activity in their neighborhoods to police. Citizens are also reminded to ensure their doors and windows are locked when they are going out, going to bed for the night, or when they are in another area of their homes.
