Halifax Regional Police has laid a charge in relation to a collision that seriously injured a pedestrian in Dartmouth last February.
On February 12, 2014 at 8:40 p.m., a 21-year-old woman crossing the road in the area of Belmont Avenue and Pleasant Street was hit by a vehicle travelling outbound on Pleasant Street. She suffered serious injuries and was transported to hospital by EHS for treatment. The woman was in the middle of the outbound curb lane on Pleasant Street at the time of the collision.
The investigation was not able to pinpoint if the pedestrian was in an unmarked crosswalk at the time of the collision, however, it was determined that the driver of the vehicle, a 26-year-old woman, was driving in excess of the posted speed limit of 60 km/h. She was issued a summary offence ticket under section 106A(b) of the Motor Vehicle Act for driving at speed that exceeds the posted speed limit by 16 to 30 km/h, inclusive. This ticket carries a fine of $291.45, three points on a driver’s license and a seven day suspension of a driver’s license upon conviction.
