Halifax Regional Police has charged a 17-year-old male youth following a fatal collision that occurred in Dartmouth on June 24.

At 4:30 p.m., Halifax Regional Police responded to a two-vehicle head-on collision on Main Street near Fader Street. One of the drivers, a 17-year-old male youth, was taken to hospital for treatment of minor injuries and later released. The other driver, 71-year-old Wayne Webber of Dartmouth, was taken to hospital where he unfortunately passed away.

The investigation revealed that the vehicle driven by the 17-year-old male youth was travelling westbound in the passing lane and crossed two lanes of eastbound traffic, colliding with Mr. Webber’s vehicle which was in the eastbound curb lane. Speed was a factor in this collision.

Earlier today, investigators with the HRP Collision Investigation Unit arrested the 17-year-old male youth from Dartmouth and charged him with criminal negligence causing death and dangerous operation of motor vehicle causing death. He has been released from custody and will appear in Halifax Provincial Youth Court on October 17.
