A man faces charges as a result of the investigation into a firearms offence that led to an officer-involved shooting early this morning.

At approximately 1:10 a.m., Halifax Regional Police officers conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle in the 200 block of Pleasant Street as part of an on-going investigation. Officers approached the vehicle and were confronted by a male suspect with a firearm, after which officers fired upon him. It is believed that one officer discharged a firearm while another deployed a non-lethal weapon. No one was injured during the incident. A total of five suspects, four men and one woman, were arrested in relation to this incident. A search of the suspect vehicle resulted in the recovery of a firearm.

As a result of the investigation by officers in the HRP/RCMP Integrated General Investigation Section, charges have been laid against 18-year-old Miguel Allan Brown of Eastern Passage. He has been held in custody for the weekend and is scheduled to appear in Dartmouth Provincial Court on Monday, March 25 to face the following charges:

- careless use of a firearm- possession of a weapon dangerous to public peace- carrying a concealed weapon- possession of a weapon knowing its possession is unauthorized- possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm with ammunition- unauthorized possession of a firearm in a motor vehicle- unsafe storage

Two of the other men arrested were determined not to be involved in the firearms offence, however, they face charges in unrelated matters. Twenty-seven-year-old Jacey John Cox of Shelburne faces charges for breaching conditions and also for possessing a prohibited weapon after he was found in possession of a knife. Twenty-eight-year-old Ryan Richard Wilneff of Halifax was arrested on a warrant. Both are being held in custody and are scheduled to appear in Dartmouth Provincial Court on Monday. The remaining man and woman who were arrested have been released without charges.

Cape Breton Regional Police Service will oversee a review into the officer-involved shooting.
