A number of Halifax Regional Police officers will be participating in the 25th Annual Scott Zinck Memorial Golf Tournament tomorrow at the River Oaks Gold Club in Meaghers Grant. The tournament is the second longest running charity golf tournament in Nova Scotia.

Cst. Scott Zinck, a well-liked Dartmouth City Police officer, passed away in 1987 at the age of 28 after a courageous battle with cancer. His friends and co-workers decided to do something that would help them deal with their grief and also help others living with cancer. The dedicated volunteer organizing committee made up of Halifax Regional Police officers - both current and retired - have worked tirelessly to ensure the event is a success each year.

To date, the tournament has raised more than $138,000 for the Canadian Cancer Society and has been recognized with a number of awards. In 1999, the event received the Award of Distinction from the Society of Fundraising Executives for exceptional achievement in fundraising. In 2000 and again in 2005, tournament organizers received the National Chairman’s Award from the Canadian Cancer Society.

Members of the media are invited to attend this year’s tournament.
