A man faces charges following an investigation by the Internet Child Exploitation (ICE) Unit of the Integrated Criminal Investigation Division and the RMCP Provincial ICE Unit.
In late 2014, investigators received information that a Halifax man was contacting a 16-year-old female youth over the internet in an attempt to obtain nude pictures of her. The victim never met the man in person. As part of this investigation, ICE investigators conducted a search of an apartment in the 6200 block of Chebucto Road in Halifax earlier today. Officers arrested a suspect at the scene and seized computer equipment.
As a result of this investigation, 21-year-old Matthew Carlson Lewis is scheduled to appear in Halifax Provincial Court on March 19 to face charges of possession of child pornography, making sexually explicit material available to a child and luring a child for the purpose of making child pornography. He was released from custody under conditions to not communicate with children under the age of 16, not possess a device able to access the internet and not be within 50 meters of a place frequented by children.
