Tuesday, Oct. 28, 2014 (Halifax, NS) – District 4 Councillor Lorelei Nicoll was elected today by her fellow councillors to serve as deputy mayor for Halifax Regional Municipality.

Councillor Nicoll will begin her one-year term as deputy mayor on Nov. 18. Deputy Mayor Darren Fisher will hold the position until that time.

“It's an honour to be selected by my peers to represent them as their deputy mayor for the coming year. I see my role as helping Regional Council work collectively to advance the interest of our municipality,” said Deputy Mayor-elect Nicoll.

Nicoll has been a member of Regional Council since October 2008. A longtime resident of HRM, Nicoll has lived in Cole Harbour for the past 28 years.

Prior to becoming a councillor, Nicoll operated a small interior design company while raising her three children.

During this time Nicoll was also heavily involved in the volunteer sector, focusing much of her attention on enhancing the educational experience of children in the community.
