Hundreds of people are expected to gather tomorrow outside the Dartmouth Boys and Girls Club on Farrell Road for the 14th Annual Dartmouth North March Against Violence.
The volunteer-organized march is a stirring show of solidarity against crime and violence drawing together area residents, community workers, members of the Dartmouth Boys and Girls Club and a contingent of Halifax Regional Police officers including Community Response Officers from Dartmouth.
The annual march began in 2000 to commemorate the life of Jason MacCullough who was murdered on a path between Joseph Young Street and Pinecrest Drive on Aug. 28, 1999. The case remains open.
MacCullough was associated with the Boys and Girls Club and the march was started as a way to honour his life and bring about positive change in the community. This year’s march will begin at the Dartmouth Boys and Girls Club on Farrell Road tomorrow at 6:30 p.m.
People in the neighbourhood who can’t attend the march are asked to leave their porch lights on in a show of support for the marchers.
