District 6 residents encouraged to verify they are on voters list

Wednesday, Nov. 25, 2015 (Halifax, NS) – The Halifax Regional Municipality is currently conducting revisions to the voters list for District 6, Harbourview-Burnside-Dartmouth East, to ensure an accurate electors list for the upcoming special election being held Jan. 23, 2016, to fill a vacant seat on Regional Council.

The municipality will be conducting revisions to the preliminary voters list between now and Dec. 11, 2015. Residents may not be on the voters list if they have recently moved to the Harbourview-Burnside-Dartmouth East district, otherwise changed address or recently turned 18 years of age. You may also wish to contact the Elections Office if a person in your household has recently moved away from the area, or passed away.

Beginning Jan. 8, 2016, voter information letters will be sent out to qualified individuals who are on the voters list. Watch for your letter in the mail.

There are three ways to confirm your name and information is correct on the voters list, or to become an eligible voter, including: 

  • Call the voter help line at 902-490-VOTE (8683) OR 1-844-301-VOTE (8683) OR TTY/TDD 902-490-6645 or TTY/TDD 1-866-236-0020. Operating hours are 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., until Friday, Dec. 11, 2015 (closed Sundays).
  • During the advance polls on Saturday, Jan. 16, 2016, and Tuesday, Jan. 19, 2016, bring your ID with your address to an advertised advance poll location to recite an oath and receive your voting credentials.
  • On election day, Saturday, Jan. 23, 2016, bring your ID with your address to your local poll (voting) location where you can be sworn in and cast your ballot.
