Two men face drugs charges after a search overnight in Halifax.

In the early hours of May 16, officers assigned to the Central Quick Response Unit (CQRU) and the HRP/RCMP Integrated Guns and Gangs Unit, conducted the search of an apartment in the 2100 block of Robie Street. Officers seized a significant quantity of marijuana, cocaine and hashish during the search with a street value of well over $100,000. They also seized drug paraphernalia, cell phones, packaging and a large amount of cash at the scene. A 30-year-old man and a 19-year-old man, both from Halifax, were arrested at the scene and held in custody. They will appear in Halifax Provincial Court today to each face three counts of possession of drugs for the purpose of trafficking.

Drug activity often involves violence that puts innocent citizens at risk and is detrimental to the overall safety of our communities. The Quick Response Unit is an important part of the Halifax Regional Police crime reduction strategy, with a separate unit for each of our three divisions. The members in these units usually work in a plain clothes capacity and address crime and quality-of-life issues. Citizens are encouraged to report drug activity to police at 490-5020.
