Halifax Regional Police is advising citizens who use Point Pleasant Park to expect an increased police presence in the park on Sunday evenings.

A large number of motorists and car enthusiasts have been gathering in the lower parking lot of Point Pleasant Park on Sunday evenings. HRP has received reports of dangerous driving, alcohol consumption, vandalism, illegal parking and littering. Due to the large number of people attending these informal meetings, police are concerned about the safety of the individuals involved as well as other people who are using the parking lot. Access to the lower parking lot for other park users is also restricted by these activities.

This has been an ongoing issue for a number of years and it starts to ramp up every spring. Officers have been monitoring the situation since mid-April, and over the coming weeks, will continue to patrol the lower parking lot of Point Pleasant Park to prevent illegal and dangerous activities and ensure EHS Life Flight’s mobile critical-care ground-transfer unit can access the roadway from the helipad that is adjacent to the lower parking lot. Officers will monitor activities in the area and issue summary offence tickets should the situation warrant.

Citizens are encouraged to call police at 902-490-5020 to report any suspicious or dangerous activities in the area. Anonymous tips can be sent to Crime Stoppers by calling toll-free 1-800-222-TIPS (8477), submitting a secure web tip at www.crimestoppers.ns.ca or texting a tip - Tip 202 + your message to 274637.
