In their continued effort to address traffic safety and educate citizens on the rules of the road, the Halifax Regional Police/RCMP Integrated Traffic Unit will focus on seatbelt enforcement during the month of February.

It is well known and documented that seatbelts save lives and HRM Partners in Policing are reminding motorists to buckle up. Drivers are responsible to ensure that passengers under the age of 16 are wearing their seatbelts. Parents are also reminded that children must use a car seat or booster seat until they are at least 4’9” (145 cm) or age 9. Summary offence tickets under these sections of the Motor Vehicle Act carry a fine of $176.45 and two points on a driver’s license upon conviction.

The unit’s focus in January was driving for weather conditions. Officers issued a total of 1,751 tickets across HRM during the month.
