Officers arrested four male youths after they stole a boat from the Halifax waterfront overnight.
At 3:15 a.m., officers responded the Halifax waterfront after a Waterfront Development security officer observed four youths on a sailboat travelling towards Dartmouth. The sailboat was previously tied up on the Halifax side of the harbour. With the assistance of a Halifax Regional Fire and Emergency fireboat, the sailboat was intercepted in the harbour and towed to the Dartmouth waterfront where the youths were arrested.
A 16-year-old male youth and three 14-year-old male youths, all from Halifax, were held in custody overnight and will appear in Halifax Provincial Youth Court today to face charges of theft over $5,000, possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000 and taking a vessel without consent. One of the 14-year-old youths also faces a charge of breach of a recognizance under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
