At 2:56 a.m., police responded to reports of shots fired near Grafton and Carmichael Streets in downtown Halifax. A man was seen running away from the area. Officers stopped him on Upper Water Street and took him into custody. At the same time, a vehicle with two people inside was seen fleeing the scene. Officers stopped the vehicle on Creighton Street. Two men were arrested and the vehicle was seized. At this time, it appears there were no injuries related to this incident. The investigation is ongoing.

Update - March 24, 2012 (3:46 p.m.)

Detectives from the HRP/RCMP Integrated General Investigation Section conducted a thorough investigation of the incident that has resulted in multiple charges being laid against two men from the Dartmouth area.

According to witnesses, several people were involved in this incident and multiple shots were fired during the altercation. A Halifax man who fled the area on foot and was taken into custody on Upper Water Street was later determined to be the victim in this matter. Two men who fled the scene in a car that was subsequently stopped by police in the 2500 block of Creighton Street are believed to be responsible for the shooting. They were arrested and held for questioning. A 24-year-old man will face attempted murder charges as well as numerous weapons related charges. A 28-year-old man will face multiple weapons related charges. Both are being held for court. No one was injured during the incident.
