At approximately 1 a.m., police responded to a two vehicle collision on Highway 111 between exits 6 and 7. The collision occurred when a southbound vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed clipped a second southbound vehicle causing both cars to lose control. One vehicle spun out of control, travelling across the median into the northbound lanes, and then stricking the guardrail before coming to rest in the median once again. A man in his 30's travelling in this vehicle was taken to hospital with minor injuries. The driver of the second vehicle fled on foot when officers arrived at the scene. A K-9 unit was called in and successfully tracked and arrested the man. The HRP Accident Investigation Unit was called out to coordinate the accident investigation. A 33-year-old Cole Harbour man faces charges of impaired driving and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.
