At 5:19 p.m., East Patrol Officers responded to a report of a suspicious package in the parking lot of Cherubini Metal Works, 760 Pleasant Street in Dartmouth. Video surveillance showed a white Pontiac Aztec pulling into the parking lot at 5:08 p.m. and a white male, 40 to 50-years-old, approximately 6' with black hair placing a black suitcase on the ground. After a preliminary investigation, officers determined that there was no reasonable explanation for the occurrence and called two bomb disposal members to the scene. Fortunately, the suitcase contained clothing. Investigators will be attempting to identify the driver of the vehicle for questioning.
Update - May 8, 2012 (6:16 p.m.)
The person who placed the suitcase in the parking lot of a business in Dartmouth on Monday evening came forward to police and explained the circumstances surrounding this matter. Police have determined that there was nothing untoward and no longer consider this incident to be suspicious.
