At 8 p.m., police responded to a motor vehicle crash on Highway 102 outbound just past the Kearney Lake Road on-ramp. Officers located a motorcycle that had left the road and ended up in the woods. The driver had been thrown from the motorcycle. The driver, a 17-year-old male youth from Bedford, was rushed to the QE2 Health Science Centre where he later died from his injuries. The highway was blocked for several hours while members of the Accident Investigation Team and Forensic Identification Section completed their investigation.
While officers were on-scene investigating the original accident, a second accident occurred inbound on Highway 102 directly across from the accident site. It appears that the driver of a vehicle travelling inbound slowed down to look at the accident and was rear-ended by another vehicle travelling in the same direction. The collision caused extensive damage to both vehicles and the occupants of the two vehicles were treated at the scene by EHS and released.
