At 2 a.m. patrol officers in Dartmouth responded to the outbound lane in the area of 100 Main Street to a report of a man who may have been struck by a vehicle. A 25-year-old man was found lying on the roadway. Officers learned that he had recently left a nearby liquor establishment and was walking westbound along Main street. The man had sustained non-life threatening injuries and was taken to the QEII hospital for treatment.

Police initially questioned whether the man may have been struck by a passing vehicle and were requesting the public's assistance in determining what had happened; however, as a result of locating an additional witness, officers have since determined this incident was not a hit and run. It appears the victim was walking on Main St. when a truck pulling a large trailer and excavator pulled up and stopped at a red light. The victim jumped on to the back of the trailer. When the light turned green, the truck pulled away and as it gained speed the victim jumped from the trailer and rolled on to the ground, causing his injuries. The truck continued on its way and there is no indication that the driver was aware of what had happened. This vehicle has not yet been located and the investigation is continuing.
