At 5:45 p.m. on July 31, police received an anonymous complaint of a young man carrying a firearm in the area of Clement Street in Dartmouth. The complainant stated that the man had entered a residence in the 0-100 block of Clement Street. Patrol officers and members of the HRP Emergency Response Team (ERT) arrived on-scene and set up containment on the residence. HRP Crisis Negotiators were brought to the scene and patrol officers notified occupants in nearby homes of the potential danger and requested they stay inside until the situation was resolved. During this initial police response, a man fitting the suspect’s description came to the door of the residence and was taken into custody without incident by ERT members. Further investigation determined that the 19-year-old man had been carrying an air soft pistol (plastic BB gun). No charges will be laid in this matter.

This situation serves as a reminder that these types of realistic looking guns should not be carried in public as they can cause concern and disrupt our communities, as well as unnecessarily tie up emergency responders.
