GO# 15-112362 - Police respond to a vehicle fire

At 10:45 p.m. on August 10, officers assisted Halifax Regional Fire & Emergency, who were responding to a vehicle fire in the 2300 block of Maynard Street in Halifax. Police were informed that a man had been observed inside the vehicle moments before the fire started and had fled towards Gottingen Street. The man was arrested moments later without incident near the scene and was found to be in possession of stolen property taken from the vehicle. A member of the Forensic Identification Section was also involved in the investigation. A 39-year-old Halifax man remains in police custody facing the following charges: arson, theft under $5,000, possession under $5,000, three counts of breach of probation and two counts of breach of a recognizance. He will appear in Halifax Provincial court later today. The incident remains under investigation by the Integrated General Investigation Section.
