At approximately 12:40 a.m. on January 6,  Halifax Regional Police responded to the IWK Health Centre for an assault. A man entered the Centre and confronted a staff member. During the confrontation, which took place in an elevator, the man produced a small pair of scissors and attacked the staff member. The victim, a 52-year-old man, suffered several small puncture wounds and was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. IWK security personnel apprehended the suspect and contacted police. Officers determined during the course of the investigation that incident wasn't a random act as the two men are known to each other. A 24-year-old Halifax man faces numerous charges including assault with a weapon, assault causing bodily harm and threats.
