Friday, Sept. 25, 2015 (Halifax, NS) – The Halifax Regional Municipality is pleased to partner with the Canadian Association of Retired Persons )CARP of Nova Scotia, by hosting special events and programs designed to celebrate seniors and the contributions of older adults in our communities.

Go Seniors Go is a celebration of seniors in Halifax being held in conjunction with Seniors Week in Canada, Sept. 26 to Oct. 2. National Seniors Day is celebrated on Oct. 1 in most of Canada. As Oct. 1 is also Treaty Day in Nova Scotia, CARP Nova Scotia has chosen to create a senior’s week and celebrate our seniors from Saturday, Sept. 26 to Friday, Oct 2.

Seniors can take advantage of a number of free or special municipal programs and services on Tuesday, Sept. 29, including:

• Seniors Week proclamation and flag raising at Grand Parade Square with Mayor Mike Savage, 10 a.m. Reception to follow inside Halifax City Hall. • Halifax Public Libraries is offering a number of special events and programs throughout the day to celebrate Seniors Week. More details can be found at www.halifaxpubliclibraries.ca/programs.html (choose Go Seniors Go under the Categories drop down menu). • Free Halifax Transit services all day for seniors on both Tuesday, Sept. 29 and Thursday, Oct. 1.

CARP Nova Scotia is dedicated to promoting social change that will bring financial security, equitable access to health care, freedom from discrimination, and an acceptable quality of life for our seniors in our province.

We invite all residents to take this opportunity to celebrate seniors and their contributions in our communities.
