The HRP/RCMP Integrated Financial Crime Unit is requesting the public’s assistance in locating two fraudsters.
In the last couple of weeks, police have received several complaints regarding a man and a woman selling gold jewelry from the back of a vehicle. The suspects have approached customers at various pizza shops telling them that they have gold jewelry for sale. They say that the items are worth thousands of dollars and offer to sell them for a fraction of that price. They use high pressure sales tactics, urgency and other sales closing techniques to compel customers to buy the jewelry. Once the transaction has been completed, the sellers quickly leave the area. In several instances, the jewelry turned out to be highly polished brass instead of gold. Some customers have lost thousands of dollars in these types of transactions.
Investigators are requesting the public’s assistance in locating two people in relation to this investigation:
- A white woman, 30-years-old, shoulder-length brown hair, who speaks with an east European accent.
- A white man, 30-years-old, brown hair, unshaven, who speaks with an east European accent.
They were observed leaving the scene of one incident in a 2012 Volkswagen Golf bearing Quebec license plate FHS7953. Although they are not believed to be from here, investigators believe they are still in the Halifax area.
