Halifax Regional Police COVID-19 update

Halifax Regional Police is pleased to report that a negative COVID-19 test result has been confirmed for one of our officers whose close family member had contact with another individual who had tested positive for COVID-19. All necessary steps are being taken as per the direction of public health. All other employees who were sent home for self-isolation, pending the officer’s test results, will be returning to work.

We appreciate all the support and kind wishes we have had from community members. We continue to take every precaution necessary to protect our employees as well as the public from challenges brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic.

On the evening of March 27, Halifax Regional Police became aware that a close family member of one of our officers has been in contact with an individual who has tested positive for COVID-19. In the interest of safeguarding the health of our employees and citizens we serve, we are exercising an abundance of caution and transparency and taking a number of steps. The officer has been in contact with Public Health and is currently undergoing testing.

The following steps are being taken immediately:

  • All other employees who had contact with the officer are currently in isolation and following all necessary precautions.
  • Thorough disinfection of the workplace is currently underway, with a particular focus on high-touch surfaces such as doorknobs, work surfaces, tools, etc.
  • Other pieces of equipment and vehicles the officer made contact or potentially made contact with have been identified and are being thoroughly disinfected

Health and safety of our staff and the citizens we serve is paramount. Halifax Regional Police is committed to taking every necessary precautionary measure to help curb the spread of COVID-19.
