Thursday, Feb. 19, 2015 (Halifax, NS) – Halifax Transit is advising passengers of service adjustments going into effect over the next two weeks to accommodate the upcoming Macdonald Bridge re-decking project. Halifax Harbour Bridges has advised that continuous overnight bridge closures will be required for the re-decking project beginning Mar. 1, 2015, Sunday to Thursday, 7 p.m. to 5:30 a.m.

As a result of the planned evening bridge closures and to coincide with other transit service adjustments, Halifax Transit buses will not be travelling across the Macdonald Bridge Sunday through Thursday evenings after 6:30 p.m. to the end of the service day, beginning Monday, Feb.23. Several routes will be impacted by the bridge closures and service changes, however, it is important to note that peak weekday commuting travel will not be impacted in any way.

During the hours of the bridge closures, shuttle bus service will be provided in place of routes that normally travel across the Macdonald Bridge. Passengers travelling to Dartmouth will disembark at the Scotia Square Terminal and board a shuttle at the MetroLink bus stop. Dartmouth bound, the shuttle will also service stops along Gottingen Street as far as North Street. If the Macdonald Bridge is open to traffic - as it will be for the week of Feb. 23 to 28 - shuttle buses will travel the Macdonald Bridge, but in most cases, shuttle buses will travel the MacKay Bridge and passengers would disembark at the Highfield Terminal or Bridge Terminal in Dartmouth to continue their travels.

Halifax Transit is also increasing service on the Alderney to Halifax ferry route beginning Mar.2 as an alternative to the bus shuttle for passengers. Weekday service will increase to 15 minutes after 6 p.m. until 11:45 p.m., and Sunday service will increase to begin service at 6:30 a.m. on a 30 minute frequency until 11:45 p.m.
