Thursday, Dec. 11, 2014 (Halifax, NS) – The Halifax Regional Municipality is advising residents that Hammonds Plains Road remains closed at this time due to flooding from yesterday’s rainstorm; however, water levels on nearby Bluewater Road are receding and that road will reopen tonight.

Hammonds Plains Road is not expected to reopen until tomorrow, at the earliest, depending on how fast water levels recede. Right now the water is still too deep for vehicles to travel safely through.

Workers are on site now to help direct traffic. Signs are up at the Hammonds Plains Road exits on Highway 102, restricting travel to local traffic only on Hammonds Plains Road. There is no access on Hammonds Plains past Gary Martin Drive.

The same restrictions are in place at the intersection of Hammonds Plains Road and Larry Uteck Boulevard (formerly Kearney Lake Road).

The municipality and Halifax Water apologize for any inconvenience this closure may cause, but are reminding motorists that the closures are in place for their own safety. The public will be notified once the area reopens to traffic.
