HRP hosts second annual Take Our Kids to Work Day

Halifax Regional Police (HRP) is today hosting the second annual Take Our Kids to Work Day.

Twenty-four grade nine students, each who is a child, relative or friend of one of our employees, are participating in a day full of activities that provide a glimpse into the work done by both officers and civilians within HRP day-in and day-out.

They received a briefing from a Patrol Sergeant to start their day. Throughout the day they’ll observe employees in the K-9 Unit, Accident Investigation Unit and Forensic Identification Section. They’ll also attend the Nova Scotia Medical Examiner Service for a tour of their facility and end their day participating in hands-on activities with a police trainer.

A national program, Take Our Kids to WorkDay sees Grade 9 (or equivalent) students hosted by parents, friends, relatives and volunteers at workplaces across the country the first Wednesday of November each year. The intention of the program, which was established in 1994, is to encourage students’ to consider career options for the future by connecting their education with the work world.
