Halifax Regional Police has charged a man following a collision involving a police vehicle overnight in Halifax.
At 12:28 a.m., beat officers walking downtown as part of the Downtown Safety Strategy observed a vehicle maneuvering out of a parking spot on Sackville Street. As the vehicle attempted to get on the road, it collided with another parked vehicle, causing some damage. The two beat officers stepped onto the roadway and signaled to the driver to pull over to the side of the road. The driver accelerated and headed towards both officers, who had to jump out of the way to avoid being hit. Both officers were hit by the passenger side mirror of the vehicle as it passed by them. They sustained minor injuries but did not require medical attention.
The officers gave the description of the vehicle to nearby police units. A short time later, an officer spotted the vehicle near the intersection of Sackville and Queen Streets. He attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the vehicle and while doing so, the suspect side-swiped the police vehicle, before coming to a halt. The suspect was subsequently taken into custody without incident
Twenty-nine-year-old Adam Roger Bleasdale of Halifax was held in custody overnight. He will appear in Halifax Provincial Court today to face charges of impaired operation of a motor vehicle, having a blood alcohol level that exceeds the legal limit, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, flight from police, failing to stop at the scene of an accident and two count of assaulting a police officer with a weapon.
