Incident Leads to School Lockdown

(2:24 p.m.)Two schools went into lockdown this afternoon following an incident in north end Halifax.

At 1:29 p.m., police responded to a report of a man armed with a handgun seen walking in the area of Gottingen Street and Russell Street in Halifax. As a result, St. Joseph Alexander McKay School and Shambhala Independent School were advised of the situation and initiated a lockdown. Shortly before 2 p.m., information was received that the reported armed man was in fact carrying a replica firearm which he was using as part of a photo-shoot. He was located in Dartmouth and the firearm was confirmed to be a replica. Officers informed the schools of the result and the lockdown was lifted at 2 p.m.
