Halifax Regional Police has contacted the Nova Scotia Serious Incident Response Team (SIRT) regarding a motor vehicle crash that occurred earlier this morning.

At 3:04 a.m. officers attempted to stop a vehicle for a motor vehicle infraction at the intersection of Bayers Road and Connaught Avenue. The vehicle continued to be operated in a reckless manner and reached speeds up to 80 km/h resulting in the termination of the pursuit and officers losing sight of the vehicle. At 3:06 a.m., officers responded to a report of a vehicle crashing into a residence in the 2800 block of George Dauphinee Avenue. This was the same vehicle involved in the pursuit, and a 45-year-old Halifax man was taken into custody and transported to hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries. Criminal charges of impaired operation of motor vehicle, dangerous operation of motor vehicle and flight from police will be laid against the man. The matter remains under investigation.

As this crash resulted in serious injuries following a police pursuit, Halifax Regional Police contacted SIRT earlier this morning and they will be conducting an investigation into this incident. Any questions about their investigation should be directed to SIRT.
