hursday, July 10, 2014 (Halifax, NS) – The Halifax Regional Municipality is pleased to announce that Grammy nominee and five-time Billboard Music Award-winning artist, Lil Jon, and rapper Tech N9ne will headline the 5th annual Halifax Hopscotch Urban Arts Festival (Sept. 26-28). The three-day festival will see dance, art and music take over the waterfronts in Dartmouth and Halifax, with major events featuring some of the world’s best entertainers. The festivities will wrap up Sunday night with a live concert at the Cunard Centre, featuring Lil Jon and Tech N9ne.

Tickets for the concert go on sale Wednesday, July 30, at www.ticketatlantic.ca.

Lil Jon has collaborated with world-renowned artists, including Usher and rapper Ice Cube. He currently holds the No. 1 spot on the Billboard charts for dance/electronic song of the year with his hit, “Turn Down for What,” which has been at the top for seven weeks now. He will be joined by co-headliner Tech N9ne, who has sold more than two million albums worldwide and has been featured on hit albums with Eminem, Snoop Dogg and many more.

Hopscotch is the municipality’s premier festival celebrating youth and diversity. Its vision is to unite, energize, support and celebrate the region’s vibrant and diverse music and youth communities, and find innovative ways to work together toward common goals. The events provide a platform and the resources needed to advance the growth of local arts as a tool for positive youth engagement and dialogue at the individual, community and regional level. This year’s festival will feature some ground-breaking events, including Atlantic Canada’s first ever drive-in concert. Music fans can drive to the venue and stay in their vehicle to watch a showcase of more than 50 artists, emcees, deejays and dancers.

If dancing is more your thing, check out the National Breakdance Competition or take part in a massive dance circle, surrounded by vehicles with premier sound systems. The Hopscotch Executive Committee is now taking applications for those who would like to involve their vehicle in this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

The weekend will also include a live free concert on the Halifax Waterfront, opportunities for youth to participate in free workshops all weekend long and a huge live art show on Sept. 26, where artists will create a 60-metre mural, funded by Waterfront Development.

Local artists can submit applications to the Hopscotch Executive Committee to perform in the art show and various other events. Those interested should contact Billy Comer in Events & Cultural Initiatives at comerbi@halifax.ca.

This year the Hopscotch Festival is brought to you by Halifax Events, Canadian Heritage, Waterfront Development and 101.3 The BOUNCE.
