On August 24, at 9:06 p.m., HRP officers responded to a lost and injured person complaint in the area of Chain Lake Drive near the Kent building supplies. Information received indicated a 45-year-old male hiker had made his way to the area on a walking trail and had sustained an injury to his ankle and was now unable to make his way out. Officers were able to ping the phone and establish GPS co-ordinates on the man. A K-9 unit and patrol members were able to locate the man, who was approximately 100 meters into the woods over an embankment, and EHS also attended. The terrain was such that the man had to be removed using a non-direct route established by a K-9 unit. HRM Fire and emergency cut and tracked an approximate 200 meter path to the man and safely extracted him to the roadway.  The man was transported to the QE2 Hospital with an injury to his ankle but was otherwise in good health.
