Police have charged a man after an incident at MicMac mall earlier today.

At 12:34 p.m., police received a report that a man was walking in the mall carrying what appeared to be a firearm on his belt. Numerous officers and a K-9 unit converged on the mall and located the man outside the entrance of the Winners Homesense store. The man was found in possession of a small knife, in a belt holder. He was also found in possession of stolen property from the store. Further investigation revealed that no one ever witnessed the man carrying a firearm, no one was threatened and the knife was never removed from the holder. The Winners Homesense store was closed for a short period of time while officers conducted the investigation but the mall remained open for business.

An 18-year-old man is facing charges of theft under $5000 and possession of stolen goods under $5000. He will appear in Dartmouth Provincial Court at a later date.
