Thursday, June 2, 2016 (Halifax, NS) – The Halifax Regional Municipality is pleased to once again partner and participate in Doors Open Halifax taking place this weekend, June 4 and 5, by providing free, behind the scenes access to three of its signature facilities.
This is the fourth year for the popular Doors Open Halifax event, a citizen-led initiative designed to provide the public with free access to explore a variety of venues that represent the dynamics of our history, culture, and the industry that has shaped the region.
The following municipal buildings and facilities will be open for free as per the dates and times indicated below:
Halifax City Hall 1841 Argyle Street, Halifax Open Saturday, June 4 & Sunday, June 5, 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. Venue Highlights: Open to Council and the public since 1890, this historic government building has been the workplace for some of Nova Scotia’s most famous politicians including Joseph Howe and Alexander Keith. The building is one of the finest examples of a style popular with major government buildings of the day throughout the British Empire and the United States.
Halifax Regional Fire Station 2 5988 University Avenue, Halifax Open Saturday, June 4 & Sunday, June 5, 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. Venue Highlights: Constructed in 1908 by William B. Fidler, the Halifax Fire Department eventually settled here, after being established in 1754. It is the second oldest, continuously working fire station in Canada.
Halifax Greenhouse 5711 Sackville Street, Halifax Open Saturday, June 4 (only), 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. Venue Highlights: Ever wonder where all the flowers and trees for our parks and open spaces come from? Take a tour and learn about how the experts beautify our communities.
